More Lake Mead

The last post was courtesy of Spencer. Since we are making this into a book, I think we need to write a little more about it and put more pictures on the blog. Feel free to skip the writing and look at the pictures if you're checking out our blog.

We had a blast at Lake Mead. I don't think Davis has had more fun in his life. He loved every minute of it. He loved the sand and loved the water even though it wasn't as warm as I remember it being in the fall. He was completely happy to go on boat rides and usually had a big smile on his face. Blair was a happy camper the first day, but the second and third day weren't her favorite. The second day she had a fever and was crabby and refused to eat anything. We gave her Tylenol and cuddled her hoped she would be better later. She wasn't. Finally on our way home at about 11:30pm Saturday her fever broke. We got home and noticed a rash all over her chest and back. She had Roseola. That explained the crankiness and the lack of appetite. I just felt bad it happened while we were at the lake.

Spence and I had a good time relaxing and enjoying time together and with our family after not seeing each other much due to busy season. Spence learned to air chair and I did a little wake boarding. We had fun hanging out with my parents and Austin. The babies love Grandma and Grandpa; and Austin can always make them laugh.

Here are a million more pictures of our trip.

Sick Days

This is kind of a random post, but I'm going to make this blog into a book and I thought this was a crazy memory so I wanted to write it down.

A couple of weeks ago, the babies and I were staying at my parent's house because Spence was working tons of hours to meet the tax extension deadline. On Wednesday night at about 1am Davis woke up throwing up. The poor little guy was covered in it, and so was his bed. I called for my mom to come help me get him cleaned up. She came and we got everything taken care of and started a load of laundry with his PJ's and blankets. For the next few minutes, I held Davis on the couch and cuddled him up as he continued to throw up. He had settled down a bit and I started to feel queasy myself. I asked my mom to hold him while I ran to throw up myself, but on the way to the bathroom, I saw Blair sit up in her bed and start throwing up. All of us were sick and it hit us all within one hour. What a mess. My parents were both helping clean things up and take care of the babies. After we got everyone settled and clean and only throwing up every half hour, my dad took Davis downstairs and my mom had Blair in bed with her. I went and tried to get to sleep in my own bed. It was a long night for everyone as we all threw up pretty often and my mom did four loads of laundry.

The next morning, my mom headed off to work with only about an hour of sleep and my dad cleared his schedule so he could stay home and take care of the kids for me. I think it was a pretty long day for him. I wasn't much help at all. I hadn't kept anything down and didn't even have enough energy to carry the kids up and down the stairs. In the late afternoon, the babies started doing better, but I still didn't feel good at all. We all went to bed early and felt much better in the morning.

As you can see from the picture below, it was difficult to keep clean clothes on the kids. Blair isn't in matching PJ's and Davis only has on a new t-shirt that we bought him the day before. We were glad to have the help of my parents. Even if we were home, there would have been no way for Spence to miss a whole day of work. I was also pretty glad we weren't home because I didn't want Spence to get sick. We came home to him Friday feeling much better, however, Monday morning he woke up with the flu. He had to stay home from work and work tons of extra hours later to make up for it. Overall, it was a crazy week and I hope I'm not sick at the same time as my kids again. It was, however, nice to have them both get over it in one day and not drag it out.

Good Day for Blair and Mom, Bad Day for Davis

Today was a pretty chill day. We hung out at home and ran some errands. We went to Toys R Us and bought some things for the kid's birthday. I think it'll be the only year we take them shopping with us for their birthday presents. It's kind of nice that they won't remember buying the toys when they get them. I like to take pictures almost every day, but Davis would have none of it today. He was ticked. I just thought the picture of him being mad was pretty funny.

This picture makes me laugh too. Blair loves to do what Mom is doing. Tonight I was picking up the kitchen and she pulled out a rag and started wiping the floor while I was cleaning the counter tops. Hopefully she'll always want to be Mom's helper.

Playtime

Nothing super eventful is happening at our house. It's busy season for Spence so we look forward to any time we get to see him. The babies get so excited when he's home. They crawl all over him non-stop. Blair loves to give him hugs. When he's not home, were having fun on our own. Here are some cute pictures of the kids lately.

These two pictures were Dad's idea of fun one day and the babies couldn't get enough. They love the diaper boxes - they're a favorite toy at our house. They love to be inside and play Peek-a-Boo.

Davis loves to read books and could entertain himself all day that way. He turns the pages and babbles to himself as he goes through each book. If I had the time, I’m sure he’d happily listen to me read to him for hours each day. Blair likes books too, but not like Davis. Blair is more interested in helping fold (or unfold) clothes and unload the dish towels from the drawers. They now have child locks on them, but her little arm fits through the small opening. She is a little imitator. Whatever Mom does, Blair does. This picture makes me laugh. Blair has started giving us the cheesiest grins lately. She laughs at herself and smiles like this when she thinks she's being pretty funny.
The kids have learned how to go up and down the stairs now. I didn't give them a chance to learn until recently because I didn't want to deal with them being able to go wherever they wanted. For the most part, they will turn around at the top of the stairs so they can go down, but sometimes they forget. No major accidents yet. I still use the gate when I want to keep them both on the same floor, but they love to play on the stairs. The other day they were having a good time going up and down the four flights of stairs we have and Davis crawled right out of his pants. New Fall clothes are a little big and he had a hard time getting up the stairs with his pants on. It was pretty funny to watch as he realized what had happened and looked at his pants for a minute. After that, I think he decided it was easier to get where he was going without pants.

Here's Blair practicing walking. The previous post with the video of her walking was the end of walking for a while. The next day, she refused to take any steps and she'd just sit down when we stood her up. A few days ago, she decided to give walking another go. At her best, she'll do eight to ten steps.
This is Davis loving Fall and new clothes. Who doesn't like jeans and a comfy hoodie?
"Where's the drink?" The kids have started learning to drink out of real cups. They use a real cup to have a little drink after they get their teeth brushed and they love it. They also love to drink the bath water. Cups are some of their favorite bath toys and they are constantly filling them with water and taking a drink. They think it's pretty fun. Now, when either of them see anything that even remotely resembles a cup, they try to take a drink.
A few weeks ago, Brady, Emily, Trey and Ivory came to Utah for a visit. We had so much fun seeing them and playing with their cute kids. Ivory is getting so big and Trey is more fun each time we see him. He loves to be the big kid and play with the babies. He likes to help them and teach them new things. Trey loves the Bob the Builder toys and he always wanted to put the safety goggles on Davis. What a cutie.
The babies love to play with Trey and follow him around. I think Trey is used to his baby sister though because when I put Davis down on the floor to play he yelled "Look! He moved!" when Davis started to crawl around.

Dad's Hidden Talent

Last Saturday I had planned to get Davis a much needed haircut. We were in Logan for Abril's baby shower and Grandma was going to cut Davis' hair afterward. It needed to be done so bad, but we waited because Grandma does better than anyone else we've had do it. After the shower we waited for Spence, Jared, and Adam to re-appear with the kids. When they returned from their afternoon of fun, Grandma was taking her neighbor to the hospital. Because we had to get home for the Relief Society broadcast (for me to attend and Spence to clean up from the dinner), we weren't able to fit in a haircut. I didn't think it was a big deal - I could take him somewhere on Monday.

We got home late enough that I had missed the dinner and we all had to rush to the church. I didn't give the haircut another thought. When I returned from the broadcast, the kids were in bed. It was a little earlier than normal, but they hadn't had great naps, so it made sense. Sunday morning I went downstairs to make breakfast for the babies and Spence was bringing them downstairs. He came down with Blair first and put her in the highchair. When I asked why he didn't have them both, he made a little bit of a funny face and went to get Davis.

Spence put Davis in his highchair and didn't say a word to me. Davis looked a little different. What!!??? He had gotten a haircut the night before. While I was at Relief Society, not worrying about what was happening at home, Spence was cutting Davis' hair. Once I realized what had happened, I wasn't the most thrilled mom. Spence, however, was very pleased with his work. He told me it didn't look so great right then because Davis had just gotten up and it needed to get a little gel in it. After I got over the shock of Spence actually doing what he always joked about doing, I realized it wasn't a bad haircut after all. He did a pretty good job. He said he has watched him mom cut hair a million times and learned her technique and he practiced by cutting his own hair on his mission - that was way easier than cutting Davis' hair.

He used the clippers on the sides while Davis sat in the highchair and then used scissors to do the top. Not just any scissors though, he didn't know where the good ones were. He used kitchen shears. Oh yes. To do this, he had to hold Davis down on the floor with his legs and try to keep his head still. It sounds like it was quite the production and I am a little amazed at the result. Davis' hair looks pretty good and there was no trace of anything unusual when I got home from Relief Society. Good job Dad, but we'll still go with Grandma next time.

First Steps

Blair has started taking a few steps. She took her first two on the 10th. Since then, she would take a couple of steps and then fall forward because she was leaning too far towards us. She loves walking all around on furniture and pushing the car around at Grandpa and Grandma Davis' house. Yesterday she started putting a few more steps together. She is going to be cruising around before we know it.

Happy Birthday Spencer!

Saturday was Spencer's 27th birthday. He was celebrating in Idaho fishing on the South Fork of the Snake River with my dad and his brother Jared. What a perfect place for him to spend his birthday. He was so excited to go fishing (as always), and it was a much needed break from work. He has been super busy lately with the fall tax deadline approaching, so I'm glad he could fit in a quick trip.
Sunday we had our families come over for a little dinner and cake. We had a great time visiting with everyone and playing with all of the kids. It was beautiful weather - we couldn't have asked for a better night to eat outside. Thanks for coming everyone. Yesterday was fun to have Spence around all day (except the five hours he was doing his church calling) and he loved seeing his cute babies. They do new things every day and he hasn't seen them lately. They were excited to see their dad.
Happy Birthday Spence. We love you so much and we appreciate all you do!

Sam was a great helper licking all of the frosting off the candles.

Random Pictures

My dad found this shirt for Blair the other day. It was so fitting that he had to get it. She loves her binky. I know, it's not the best thing, but sometimes it comes in handy. I always swore I wouldn't let it go on so long, but it's too convenient sometimes. It is wonderful at church and when I want her to go back to sleep without waking up her brother. I really think we'll be done soon, but we'll see. She really doesn't have them very often, she just loves it when she does get one.

This summer we were at a family reunion and Blair and Davis were playing on a blanket with their cousin Alex. Alex had a binky and Blair wanted it. Blair grabbed it from Alex and stuck it in her mouth. Alex snatched it back and put it in her mouth. The fight was on. Blair crawled up on Alex and grabbed it again. This could have been a knock down drag out if we didn't intervene. It was pretty funny to watch.
This is Davis and Dad having a good time getting ready for bed. The babies love it when Spence is home at bed time because it's a whole lot more fun. They laugh and play and get all worked up right before they get put in bed. I wonder why it takes longer for them to settle down and go to sleep...
This is just a cute picture of Blair. Anytime I have the camera, she looks at me and smiles. Now if she can teach her brother and do it at the same time he does, we'll be in business.

Roasting Hot Dogs

A little while ago, we roasted hot dogs in my parents back yard. The babies had a great time. They love hot dogs and marshmallows. It looks a little funny, but the high chairs outside were a great idea. Keeping two speedy babies away from the fire is a difficult task. Yes, my children do look like orphans, but it was the end of a long fun day. Who doesn't look a little disheveled when they've been having a good time.
