Costa Rica

In November we went to Costa Rica with Spence's cousin Nicole and her husband Brad. We had the best time. It was one of my favorite vacations for sure.

We hadn't planned on any more vacations for the year, and we had just gotten back from Mexico, but Nicole called with a great deal we couldn't pass up. We were so glad we didn't. Nicole and Brad were awesome tour guides. They had done so much research and found awesome things for us to do. They also found the sweetest place ever to stay. We had a HUGE, super nice house with everything we could ever want and more and they got it totally cheap. I will have to get some pictures of the house from Nicole. The house we stayed in was in the middle of the jungle, but it was just a few minutes from the beach- the best of both worlds.

The only downer of the vacation was the fact that my camera, Spence's wallet, both of our phones, and Brad and Nicole's iPod got stolen. That part wasn't fun, but the whole thing was so awesome I'd go back in a second.

One day we were at the beach and saw the fishermen going out for the night. We talked to some of them and arranged for them to take us out first thing the next morning. We were excited and thought it would be great, but apparently the fishing is better at night- we didn't get a single bite. It may, however, have been Brad's bad luck. He says he never catches anything. Next time we'll go on separate boats... It was fun to go out and see what the fishermen do and catch all the great views from the boat. Nicole and I put an end to the fun though. The boat was small and we were both feeling sick. Brad and Spence still had a great time even with no catching.

Later that day, we went on a hike to the most beautiful waterfall I have ever seen. You'll see in the pictures below that we were soaking wet from the spray when we were pretty far away from the whole thing. It was so amazing. We went swimming just below the waterfall too. Everything in Costa Rica is so beautiful; hiking through the jungle was awesome.

It's kind of hard to see, but the picture above is of a fence. They use sticks as fence posts and over time they grow into full on trees. It's pretty cool to see.

The pictures were hard to get because of all the water...

I need to get the names of all the places we went (I can't remember any of them), but the pictures below were at one of the most beautiful beaches I've ever seen. The cool part about Costa Rica is the fact that there aren't a million tourists everywhere. This beach had some cool rocks with windows that went all the way through from the beach to the water. The boys had a great time in there, but I was nervous because the waves crashed so hard in those rocks.

This is another waterfall we went to one day. It had a rope swing that the boys and I did a few times, but we didn't think it was the best idea for the pregnant girl. Getting to this place was an adventure. We got lost and had to get directions. Those directions weren't very clear and the boys thought we should try driving the rental car through a pretty big river. We decided against that and walked around only to see people driving to the waterfall. Apparently there was a much easier route we never discovered.

The last day we went to Manuel Antonio National Park. We hiked through more jungle, saw more beautiful beaches and a bunch of really neat wildlife.

On the way to the airport we stopped to check out all the crocodiles that hang out here. There were tons on each side of the bridge we were standing on.

Below is the only picture I have of the house we stayed in.
Getting home from Costa Rica was an adventure. Luckily when everything else was stolen our passports didn't go with it all. We arrived at the airport with $10 in cash only to find out there was a tax of about $60 each person to leave the country. Thank heaven we were with Brad and Nicole because the airport employees had no sympathy on us.
We did so many more things I don't have pictures of. We had a rental car so we drove ourselves everywhere. The morning after Spence and I got there, we drove a few hours to the place we were staying. It was such a cool drive with so much to see on the way.
We loved every minute of the trip. Thanks for the invitation Christensens.

Cabin Fun

Over Labor Day weekend, we took a short trip to the cabin with Grandma and Grandpa Erickson. We had a blast. That was the first time we'd been there with just them and our little family and it was awesome. Davis was in heaven getting filthy dirty every second. That place is little boy paradise. Both kids pestered their aunts to take them on the four wheeler a million times- Miranda and Kayla are too nice. One day we took a little float trip down the river which was super fun. The kids were a little disappointed that we wouldn't let them get in the water. I don't think they realized that it was so freezing cold. They would lean over the edge and beg to get in all the time. In fact, one time Davis leaned so hard he went in head first halfway down his chest. He actually didn't seem to mind the water, but that was the only time they got wet. We had so much fun- Thanks Grandma and Grandpa!

Christmas Light Parade

One night we were looking for something to do related to Christmas and we saw that Bountiful has a little Christmas light parade. Luckily we found it on the day they were having the parade and we got there at the perfect time. It was short, but fun. Perfect for two year olds. We'll definitely be there next year.

Christmas

Christmas was so much fun this year. The kids loved checking out Christmas lights, singing Christmas songs over and over and over and over, talking about Santa, playing with the Little People Nativity set at Grandpa and Grandma Davis' house, and everything else that goes along with Christmas. The time leading up to Christmas was so fun because we did something Christmas related a few times each week when Spence got home from work.
Christmas Eve was spent at Grandma and Grandpa Davis' house and Christmas Day was at our house. We went to Grandma and Grandpa Erickson's house the day after Christmas for a while before heading over to Grandma and Grandpa Olsen's house. After that, we went back to the Erickson's house to spend the night and go to church with them the next day. We love getting together with everyone and having fun and visiting. We're so lucky to have such wonderful families.
Christmas morning was actually pretty relaxing. The kids didn't know it was Christmas so they slept until about 7:45 like they normally do and then we came downstairs for breakfast. Our tree was two floors down so they hadn't realized that Santa had come yet. My parents and Morgan came over for breakfast and after we had eaten and visited we went downstairs for presents at around 10am.
When we told the kids that Santa had come and we could go downstairs and see what he brought, Blair freaked out. She thought Santa was at our house and she cried and refused to go downstairs. Once she understood that he had come and gone, she was fine to go down. Davis, on the other hand, was disappointed that Santa didn't stay.
Both kids got too many fun things. Blair got a cradle and highchair that was mine when I was little that Spence refinished (Thanks Honey! You did a great job!). She got a couple of baby quilts that I made her - Yes, you heard that right. I made them. This was my first sewing project of my life (Other than the one month they made us sew an apron in junior high; I didn't even sew that, the boy next to me did most of it.) and anyone who knows me well can attest to the fact that I never have been crafty. Blair also got a bunch of dress up stuff which she absolutely loves.
Davis got a tool bench and cars and the coolest dinosaur ever. We thought the dinosaur would be the highlight of Christmas so we saved it for last. When he opened it and turned it on, both kids started crying. They were so afraid of the dinosaur they wanted nothing to do with him. Spence finally convinced Davis that the dinosaur was nice, but Blair didn't believe it for a minute. All day long, she stayed far away from the dinosaur. When he would Roar and start to walk near her new stuff, she would grab her toys and run away. It was actually pretty funny. Even now, she has to remind herself that the dinosaur is nice.
Both kids got backpacks to hold their loot and movies and books. Blair was more into playing with her stuff and Davis wanted to open everything in sight. It took all of our effort to keep him away from the present we were giving to people over the next couple of days.
Spence got the Kindle he had been drooling over forever and I got the coolest present ever. My Dad and Spence got together and decided to send me and my mom to New York City and get us tickets to Wicked! Yea! I opened my present on Christmas Eve so it would be a surprise before my mom opened her stuff and I couldn't have been happier. We left the Monday morning after Christmas and stayed until Friday. That trip will be a post of its own.
The rest of Christmas day we just spent hanging out and visiting my family. The kids loved all the new toys, but they were driving us all crazy because there were too many things for our little house. Spence took care of the problem while I was in New York. He rearranged our play room and built a new toy box. What a great dad.
Overall Christmas was a hit and the kids continue to sing Christmas songs two months later. I absolutely love this age!

Cute Kids

Just some more random pictures over the last little while...

Grandma & Grandpa

The kids got these cute Build a Bears from Grandma & Grandpa Davis for their birthday. When you push on the hands my parents talk to the kids. Grandma talks first on Blair's and Grandpa talks first on Davis'. Because of this, the kids have started calling them Grandma & Grandpa. Today they laid on the floor with their blankets and said, "Mom, we're sleeping with Grandma and Grandpa." What little cuties.

Christmas Clothes

Just a few cute pictures of the kids in their Christmas church clothes...
