Blair is doing great today. She had a good night last night and they weaned her peep (the amount of oxygen they have to leave in her lungs after the respirator exhales in order to keep her lungs from collapsing) down to 14 this morning. If she continues to stay stable for a while, they'll move it down again in eight hours (it has to be to a 5 for a while before she can get the tube out of her throat). If she gets her peep down low enough, they'll try stopping the paralytic she's on and see how she responds to that.
We've had a couple of boring days now and that's how we like it. Anytime there's action it usually means something bad is happening. We're glad we haven't had that for a day and a half now.
Today she finally pooped. I know many of you don't care, but it's for our records. She hasn't pooped since January 30th and they've been giving her meds to help with this for four days now. Too bad for the nurse who has her today though, she's pooped four times so far this morning.
Cross your fingers for us that things continue on this current trend.
So many of our friends and family have called, come to the hospital, or done a number of other nice things for us and Blair and we appreciate it so much. She's got a bed full of stuffed animals and her wall is covered in posters and cards from neighbors, friends, and cousins. Thank you all. She'll be thrilled when she wakes up and opens her eyes. I am so grateful for all of the wonderful people we have supporting us. We are truly blessed and we love you all.
Spence has finally decided he can read a bit now that she hasn't changed much in over 24 hours. Prior to this, he was constantly focused on the monitors watching every little change and analyzing each move she made. He's a good dad, but I'm glad he can relax a bit more- now he only has to check every couple of minutes. He still rushes to eat and hurries back in to her room every time he steps out for a second.

I'm so glad that she is doing better! Reading about her in the ICU is like reading the journal that my mom wrote for me while I was in the ICU. Seriously. A ton of similarities! But I really hope she continues to improve. We are praying for you, Blair!
Yay...a day on the upside. And it is so good to see little Davis happy. We can't wait to see him this weekend. The girls ask every night for Blair to get better. We love you all so much.
YEAH for boring days! You guys sure deserve some of those! We hope things continue to improve! Davis is sure a good brother!
YAY...such good news! We are so happy that Blair is doing better! Sorry we missed you last night Brittney. I'm sure it was good for you and Davis to spend some time together. We will continue to keep all of you in our thoughts and prayers! Stay strong!
Love,
The Joostens
I'm glad things are staying on a steady "getting better" path. :) And it looks like Davis had the best day ever!
